The Red Boer goat is completely different to the traditional coloured Boer in that it is red all over
The Red Boer goat is a lovely animal to see, their coats are a uniformed deep, rich, colour, they are hardy and make wonderful mothers.
Stour Valley Red Bull (Pic right)
is sire to all of our fullblood Red Boer kids.
Our red girls came from Nicola Knott (Topknot Boer Goats) who imported from Ram H Breeders in Canada in 2007, believed to be the first (and only) importation of such goats into the UK.
The Red girls we have are very 'milky', they have more than enough milk for their kids, we often milk a little out to help any triplets who we take off the mum after 24/48hrs to bottle feed, we mix the milk in with their bottle feed powdered milk for a few days. The milk is very rich and the kids grow really fast.
They are devoted mothers and will keep feeding long after the kids are old enough to be weaned if allowed to.
Separating the kids at weaning time by putting them in the next field we thought was a good idea but the red girls siddled up to the rails close enough to let their kids put their heads through and have a drink!
